When Bethesda took over the franchise, I can't help but feel they missed the mark a little when they listened solely to the opening score by the Ink Spots and decided that the world and music should be mostly about creating a similarly happy-go-lucky retro-futuristic atmosphere with a layer of ironic distance to the actual horror and despair of the world.īlack Isle's Fallout was a very serious, dangerous world with the rare bout of random silliness thrown in.īethesda's fallout is a very random, silly world with the rare bout of seriousness and danger thrown in.

It clutches your heart as the shrill, distant violins mix with the rusty clanging of metal. The continuous noise mimics the oppressive totality of an engulfing storm and yet manages to be hauntingly melodic, almost frightening. And if youd rather leave a more permanent mark on the worlds climate, consider No Green Weathers by MrTroubleMaker. Especially Desert Wind because it's so simpl and yet so incredibly evocative. It's got a very tribal and intense air to it which has not been replicated since.īut obviously, Vats of Goo and Desert Wind are very, very high up on the list as well. I think the Fallout 1 track, "Moribund World" by Mark Morgan encapsulates the raw atmosphere and hopeless, desolate feeling of the Fallout universe better than anything else.
